TREATMENT / THERAPEUTIC FOSTER CARE
Treatment / therapeutic foster care involves intensive services with highly trained foster parents for children with psychiatric conditions involving severe emotional and behavioral problems. Therapeutic foster parents are required to meet significant education requirements and are certified in medication management and crisis intervention. PATH staff offer counseling/therapy and support to the children in care and provide treatment consultation and behavioral management support to PATH foster parents. In addition PATH social workers offer case management with the child's psychiatric community of care.
The treatment / therapeutic foster care program provides treatment services to all youth with an Axis I diagnosis in a foster family setting. The foster family is a primary provider of a treatment environment for the youth with a team that wraps services around the youth and their family utilizing a single plan of care.
COMMUNITY BASED TREATMENT PROGRAM - CBT
The CBT Program is designed to utilize treatment foster care to provide community based services for children at an increased level of intensity. Admission into the CBT Program must be approved through Certificate of Need (CON) at Dual Diagnosis. The Certificate of Need process is initiated by the completion of an Admission Review. If approved, Continued Stay Reviews must be completed 30 days following admission & every 30 days-90 days of placement thereafter, dependent upon length of approval. The CBT Program is 12 months maximum & includes intensive community based services, monthly treatment meetings, crisis planning, case aide services, enhanced respite care & intense levels of individualized supports created to maintain the youth in the community. Can also transition to FACE or TFC.
FAMILY & COMMUNITY EVALUATION PROGRAM - FACE
The FACE Program is designed with a dual purpose. It can be utilized to assess a child's suitability for family & community placement & also to assist youth who have completed their treatment, but have difficulty transitioning to community living. Certificate of Need is not needed for FACE placements. The FACE Program is 90 days maximum & includes community-based services, crisis planning, & monthly treatment team meetings to evaluate a youth's ability to maintain placement in the least restrictive environment. Extra services (i.e. respite and case aid) may be requested to aid the youth in maintaining placement during the assessment period. The assessment provides recommendations for placement that may include treatment foster care, community-based treatment, group home or residential treatment.
SPECIALIZED FAMILY CARE PROGRAM - SFC
Available: Bismarck
The SFC Program merged to PATH North Dakota, Inc. from the Bismarck Casey Family Programs. This is a small therapeutic foster care program for youth adjudicated delinquent & under the custody of the Division of Juvenile Services. It is designed to be an aftercare program for delinquent youth with mental health diagnoses needing to transition out of the Youth Correctional Center (YCC) or other more restrictive placements to a treatment family foster care setting. The program serves 8-10 youth at one time.
LONG TERM FOSTER CARE - LTFC
Under contract & in collaboration with the Casey Family Programs, PATH North Dakota, Inc. took over the former Casey Family Programs when this agency closed its services in ND. This service is limited to children & youth who were in a long term foster care placement with Casey Family Programs & to the Bismarck area.
STEP DOWN FOSTER CARE
Step Down designates youth whose behaviors & needs have stabilized allowing youth to move from TFC to a less intense level of foster care. Most youth who are 18 go into Step Down within PATH. Other youth may go into Step Down with the discretion of child and family team.
GUARDIANSHIP
Under contract & in collaboration with the Casey Family Programs, PATH North Dakota, Inc. took over the former Casey Family Programs when this agency closed its services in North Dakota. This Service is limited to children & youth who were in a guardianship placement with Casey Family programs & to the Bismarck area.
POST-ADOPTION
Under contract & in collaboration with the Casey Family Programs, PATH North Dakota, Inc. took over the former Casey Family Programs when this agency closed its services in North Dakota. This Service is limited to Casey Family Programs transferred adoptive families & to the Bismarck area.
FAMILY SUPPORT PROGRAM - FSP
The FSP offers a voluntary community based treatment option to prevent out of home placement. The youth will spend up to 6 overnights per month in the licensed PATH home with mentoring services provided to the family.
COMMUNITY ASSISTED RECOVERY ENVIRONMENT PROGRAM - CARE
A short-term community based program for youth at risk of being placed at more restrictive levels of care who are actively using substances or are in danger of relapse.
SUPERVISED ALTERNATIVE FAMILY ENVIRONMENT - SAFE
This program, in collaboration with SE Human Service Center, provides crisis stabilization services to children in the midst of a major mental health crisis while maintaining them in the community. This service must be included on SPOC & have a safety plan.
TRANSITION SERVICES

This Service is limited to youth & adults who have been or currently are under the custody of Casey Family Programs.
CONTINUING EDUCATION AND JOB TRAINING - CEJT
Under contract & in collaboration with the Casey Family Programs, PATH North Dakota, Inc. took over the former Casey Family Programs when this agency closed its services in North Dakota. This Service is a scholarship program that is limited to youth & adults who have been or currently are under custody of Casey Family Programs.
REGULAR FOSTER CARE
Regular foster care is provided by PATH North Dakota, Inc. at the request of the legal custodian. Services meet all the standards of the Council on Accreditation and mirror the services provided in Step Down.
TRANSITION AND ASSESSMENT BED PROGRAM - TAP
The Transition and Assessment Bed home is licensed for up to four youth. The program is designed to respond quickly to the placement needs of the referring agency. Placement is for 90 days with the goal of assessing the youth's needs and transitioning the youth to the most appropriate, least restrictive placement.
INDEPENDENT LIVING SERVICES
A youth-centered, future-oriented program for youth 16 and older that provides skills and knowledge, and supports in their transition to adulthood and self-sufficiency.
CASE AIDE & PARENT SUPPORT - CAPS
Available: Fargo Only
This program, in collaboration with Southeast Human Service Center, provides case aide and parent support services to SED youth and their families to assist with maintaining the youth in the community.
PATH/DJS SEX OFFENDERS PROGRAM
Treatment foster care for youth with sex offending behavior is a collaborative effort between DJS and PATH ND, Inc. The program is specifically designed for youth who have been placed in the custody of DJS, have a history of sex offending behavior and have an Axis I diagnosis. The youth served in this program will be closely supervised in the home and community as defined by the youth's wrap around / treatment plan. The youth will be co-case managed by the DJS and PATH case managers. Foster parents involved in this program must be recommended by the area Regional Director.
SPECIALIZED ADOPTION - AASK
In collaboration with Catholic Charities of North Dakota, adoption services are provided to include adoption studies, adoption placements, training and education, child specific recruitment, life book planning, foster parent adoptions and post adoption support. These services are provided for youth identified as having special needs.
VISITATION
Visitation between a child and his or her parents is a significant component of a child placed within PATH. Visitation is viewed as a learning model maximizing parenting skills and facilitating child and parent attachment in a safe setting.
